Blasphemy laws. You thought we were done with those; that they were something out of a medieval past? Well, think again.

In recognition and support of International Blasphemy Day (Sept. 30) VisionTV presents the world premiere of Blasphemy, a new documentary from Executive Producer Moses Znaimer and filmmaker Martin Himel. Blasphemy will premiere Monday, Sept. 28 at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.

Not all Blasphemy relates to conventional religion. Today, it can also relate to secular and social movements which practice cancel culture; which is, after all, a form of punishment for Blasphemy. This documentary examines both classic and contemporary cases of Blasphemy, where a particular belief or point of view claims infallibility and condemns all who dare to question or oppose.

Here are four of the Blasphemy case studies this powerful new doc explores.

Aisa Bibi is a Pakistani Christian charged with Blasphemy for drinking water from a strictly Muslim water well. She was sentenced to death and after 9 years on death row, was granted asylum in Canada.

Shaan Taseer’s father was a Pakistani Governor who fought for Aisa Bibi’s freedom and was assassinated by religious fanatics. And now, as his son, Shaan carries on his father’s legacy, he too has fatwas issued against him authorizing his death for Blasphemy.

Reverend Majed El Shafie is a human rights activist and the Founder of One Free World International (ofwi.org). He works with Canadian Baháʼí composer Jack Lenz to fight for the rights of Baháʼís in Iran who are imprisoned and executed as Blasphemers.

Meghan Murphy has been at the center of a controversy over transgender ideology. Her opposition to transgender acceptance in both law and culture has led to boycotts of her public appearances, threats to her safety, and a ban from Twitter. Meghan says she is a victim of secular Blasphemy which does not tolerate open discussion on transgender issues.
